Karen will introduce [Arnstein's ladder of participation]( http://www.citizenshandbook.org/arnsteinsladder.html ) for citizen involvement to the civic tech community. As part of a co-design-inspired research workshop, Karen will ask the Civic Tech Toronto community to share stories of participation relevant to open data, hackathons and civic technology and to map them to the ladder. Further information on Karen’s plans for a co-design research workshop with Civic Tech Toronto is available: http://karenlouisesmith.net/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/CivicTechLetter.pdf

Our weekly civic tech hacknights bring together designers, coders, urban planners, government staff, mappers, policy-makers, students, communications strategists, and all other Torontonians who share an interest in making Toronto more responsive, prosperous, sustainable and equitable, through design, tech, and data. (Coders are welcome, but you don’t have to be a coder to contribute!) Come and be part of it!

Agenda:

6:30-7: Welcome and intros 7-7:30: Presentation and Q&A/discussion 7:30-9: Breakout groups (make something!)
